  • Bit of a Mini Film Photography Revolution?

I have to say, I'm so pleased with the uptake and level of interest in the http://www.realphotographersforum.co...mpetition.html I was worried that people wouldn't be enough interested in shooting film to give it a go!
I have been very pleasantly surprised.

As i mentioned in the email i just sent out its been great to see not only an interest in the challenge, but people also following up with buying more cameras, fixing them, shooting with them, learning about home developing etc! and more importantly for me ... I have got back into deving my own films!!

Honestly, i'm so pleased! And i know from emails i have received i'm not the only one who is very happy to see this happening!

The thing with film photography is that however much digital has made things easier ... actually, the slightly harder path of shooting film, the wait to get those shots and the satisfaction of viewing them is always greater than that with digital!

I'm never going to say one is "better" than the other, they both have their merits and in terms of quality... well find the right two people with opposing views on the subject and watch it turn in to a slagging match ...
To be honest im not interested in "quality" difference ...
What I'm talking about here is the experience of taking photos with a film camera!
It is quite simply, in many respects, more fun!

With that in mind, im writing this thread in the hope that i can encourage more people to not only take part in the http://www.realphotographersforum.co...mpetition.html but to also consider film photography as an extension of your digital hobby!

    So what do we think?
Who is up for a bit of an RPF Film Photography Revolution?

I dont have a plan as such my mate, just encourage, shoot and enjoy the use of film ...
Us with the know, help those without the know etc!
If you can think of some more solid plan of action ... then shoot!

I agree its more fun with film simply because you have the excitment or trepidation of how its going to turn out.

Film is way more fun than digital. Saying that, I did spend about 5 hours over the weekend scanning loads of negs, which isn't really that fun. Will post some of the results soon

Do you ever get the feeling that sometimes everyone is copying each other? Could be coincidence, but it seems strange that Gizmodo would run this as the mini film revolution happens here, it may be good, it may be bad. But hey at least someone else is pushing the film out there again.Welcome to Film Photography Week | Gizmodo UK

      Gizomodo - copying!

It has been known - just goes to show that Hamish and RPF set the trends

Yes, well, despite our size it is my belief that this would not be the first time we have been copied ... But I might be wrong ... It might be my ego ...
And I don't mind anyway, of other more powerful sites are willing to encourage people to learn the joys of shooting film then they they should!
    1. Chris Dodkin's Avatar
Didn't the mighty DPR nick you're articles idea Hamish?
    1. Hamish Gill's Avatar
Hmmm, I have no proof of course, but I did make the mistake of emailing them to ask them if they might do a peice on us telling them how we are a user generated ezine ... About a month or so later they started the user generated articles aspect of thier site!

Possibly a coincidence, and I wouldn't want to make any solid accusations ... They are bigger than me! ...

The email I sent them is dated and contained within the admin area of this forum though

As I said though, I don't care, of someone thinks my ideas on how to implement vbullitin to make a good website are good enough to copy ... Well, I'll take it as a compliment!
And anyway, DPR is full of morons that ruin the place ...
Ita like a pub int it! I rather go to a nice pub with a few nice people than a nice pub with 100000 twats hanging around the place ... And once those twats are there, and set the atoms ... Try changing it!! All the non twats will just go else where... Like here
