A (kind of) Monkey's Fist

    The Monkey's Fist is a type of knot.
    Here's how you tie it:

    A fine image! The rope and wood give it an almost nautical look; could be a gunport on an old wooden ship rather than a zoo.

    Thanks.
    Now, I would never have thought about gun-ports for myself, but now that you mention it - gosh, blimey yes!
    I was attracted by the shadow (as noted above by Pete) when I first saw the image and it was that which made me think of the knot.
    ...but ships and knots are so closely attached to each other.
