I'm not a believer, but there is something about a very old Kirk that makes me smile. This was Open Doors Day at the local Dalmeny Kirk. It's a Norman Kirk, btw. 1. Seeing the Light! 2. The front Door 3. Jesus Christ is buried there... 4. ...and William the Coquerer, no less! 5. Dalmeny Kirk
How very apropos that a Norman kirk should have had at one time a member of its parish named William Conquer. (Maybe that was his name prior to Hastings?) Also, I never thought about where JC might have been buried, although I knew it had something to do with a stone.
There is something about an old kirk. The cornerstone of a community for centuries, has an air about it; if walls could talk... A fine looking building, there is a serene calm to the interior shot.
I have similar sentiments and also mixed feelings. Small churches are not such an issue, but I cannot help but wonder what mankind could have achieved instead had we not been wasting our time building vast edifices to the glory of a fantasy figure! Anyway aside from that the shot of the vicar (or whatever he's called) is perfect both in composition and ambiguity.
