A few snaps from my Retina.

Finally got round to developing a roll of Kentmere 100 that had been sat in my Retina IIIC for months. First time I've tried the slower emulsion in the caffenol delta recipe. Happy with the outcome. Here are a few snaps from it.

When you have a stack of old family negatives to scan..

Hopefully this will speed things up a little... couldn't have justified it if it had just been for me. No, it's ok,I haven't given up on the pixl-latr yet @Hamish Gill as the new set-up won't handle the 5.5x11cm negs from my old Ensign Carbine ☺️

    Freelensing fun

It's surprising what can be done with odds 'n' ends. I had an old Minolta af telezoom given to me that was no longer fit for use so, out of curiosity I pulled it apart. It's amazing what goes into one of these in terms of precision parts and how it all fits together. Anyway, one of the parts I...

    2017 Eclipse

Thinking about the recent eclipse across the US, I looked out a couple of pics from our family holiday in 2017, watching that particular eclipse from Tennessee.

    The '66

Halfway through the first roll I've put through it. There were a couple of issues at the start that I've hopefully dealt with (dodgy shutter release linkage mounted on the front cover and iffy front cover catch). I reckon someone's had a go at giving it a cla at some point but the main parts...

    A bug's life

Reading an interesting article about cicadas this morning got me thinking about a pic I took our road trip in the US a few years back, while we were having an otherwise routine rest stop en route. I saw this fella hanging from a tree and approached warily until it registered what it was. It's...

    Copenhagen

From 2003 and our jaunt to the continent. The last week was spent in Denmark and, whilst in the Capital, we visited The Church of Our Saviour, with it's scary external spiral staircase right up to the top of the spire. I'm actually not over keen on heights, but it had to be done. On the way back...

The day we met the King

From around 1992ish, these images were from a re-enactment celebrating an event at Southsea Castle (sadly I can't remember what exactly). This guy was doing a very convincing portrayal of what you'd imagine ol' Henry might have been like. (If memory serves better with what I used - Yashica FX3...

In the company of a Rebel.

I came across a little Canon EOS Rebel XS when on one of my sadly habitual wanders around the 'Bay, rummaging in the bargain basement bin a while back. Can't remember if it was 'buy it now' or a lucky bid. Anyway, a fiver + p&p bagged it. Very light, quite plasticy (even the lens mount) but with...

Fun with an old enlarger lens.

Back in the early summer of 2020 I thought I'd have a go at seeing what my 50mm El Nikkor would be like adapted to my 6D. I fitted it via an eos -m42 adaptor, short m42 extension tube snd m42-m39 reducing ring. I estimated that the macro ratio at about 1:10-ish so, effectively in the ball park...

    lo-fi

A few years back my eldest gave me one of those kit-form 35mm plastic tlrs, similar to the Recesky, but even more like something that fell out of a christmas cracker. The instructions were all in Chinese so I had to rely solely on the faint, sketchy diagrams in order to assemble it. Even then, I...

    Görlitz

An example of the beautiful architecture in the city centre, as seen in the soft light of evening shortly after the sun had set. Taken about 20 years ago while on holiday in Germany. Bronica ETRSi, Velvia 50. https://ralphyturner.substack.com/p/european-holiday-2003-pt2?utm_medium=reader2

    Bridgnorth on Kentmere 100

Kentmere 100 is a nice, finer grained complement to it's faster sibling (to my eyes, anyway). Here are a few views of Bridgnorth, from a couple of years ago. Taken on my Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 and the Yashica 50mm f1.9 DSB (lab dev in Xtol). The town is certainly very photogenic.

    Metamorphosis

Taken somewhere in and around Brimham Rocks, also from 2008. Back then I rarely indulged in mono, but this seemed to work.

    Identical twins

...or 'Where's Wally?' with a twist.. spot the lady and her clone walking just ahead of her. One of those occasions when a stitched pano shows one of it's limitations. Taken at Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, back in '08. (Canon EOS 350D, Sigma 17-70mm @ 30mm, Six frames stitched.

    On the way home.

A quick grab shot on my phone, looking out over Loch Ken towards Cairnsmore of Fleet. Couldn't resist.

    Golden Eye

Came across this little green tree frog a few years back while on holiday in the US. We were staying the night at a campsite in Ohio at the time, if memory serves. We found him wandering around outside the wash house. He was very patient with me, though he could have washed his feet before...

    Blackthorn

When a humble phone camera does the job nicely. I was able to reach in and get up close to the lovely blossom without disturbing the rest of the bush. I adjusted the exposure down a little to avoid blowing out the highlights.

    Oak.

A rather lovely old oak not far from us. (Canon EOS 500N, 40MM F2.8 pancake, Kentmere 400, Caffenol Delta)

    Liberty lampshade.

An inverted desk lamp at a recent hotel stay, turned round to face the wall in order to form a makeshift night light. (Canon EOS 500N, 40mm f2.8 pancake, Kentmere 400).
